The
Dinghy Division within the Sailing Section of Hillarys Yacht Club
offers family and competitive sailing for all ages and experience
levels in the clear, clean water off Hillarys. We can offer your
family fun sailing, regular training and coaching, summer and winter
racing as well as championship sailing.
We sail dinghies
that suit juniors, adults, and family sailors. Generally the minimum
age is 10 years old but it is dependant on swimming ability.
Racing is generally held on Sunday mornings during the sailing season
which extends from October to May. Parents
whose children sail are encouraged to participate either by sailing
themselves either with their kids, in a single handed dinghy or
helping out with on the start boat or rescue boats during racing
or training.
For those just starting out, training
courses are run during the spring/summer school holidays and on
weekends. These classes are small with qualified sailing instructors.
The club has a
number of Optimists available for training and racing.

Classes
The dinghy classes at Hillarys Yacht Club
are either single or two handed consisting of some of the world's
most popular classes including Optimists, Mirrors, Puffin Pacers
and Lasers.
Optimists - single
handed for ages 8-14 yrs
Mirrors - two handed
for 8 yr olds- adults
Puffin Pacers - two
handed for 8 yr olds- adults
Lasers - single
handed for 15 yr old – adults
