About the Clipper Round the World Race
The record breaking 40,000 nautical mile race is the only race of its kind where organisers supply a fleet of identical 70-foot ocean racing yachts and a fully qualified skipper to look after the crew. Having completed a rigorous training course, the crews are geared up in the latest extreme protection clothing to commence a challenge usually reserved for seasoned professionals. For the taxi drivers, chief executives, students, lawyers and other occupations that form the crews, it is a supreme challenge and an endurance test like no other. Clipper Race organisers admit “the sea does not distinguish between Olympians or novices. There is nowhere to hide - if Mother Nature throws down the gauntlet, you must be ready to face the same challenges as the pro racer.”
The epic round the world race is divided into 8 legs and 14 individual races and participants can choose to do one, some or all the legs.
The fleet departed from Liverpool, England on 20 August and you can track their progress at the Clipper Race website: www.clipperroundtheworld.com
